The Football Association (FA) has launched its new Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy — A Game Free From Discrimination — with bold commitments to drive change across the sport between now and 2028.
Building on its previous strategy, In Pursuit of Progress, this new roadmap focuses on three pillars: People, Culture, and Structures. The aim? To build a game that is truly representative, welcoming, and inclusive at every level.
The FA recognises the challenges football still faces — from racist abuse in stadiums to the underrepresentation of marginalised communities in coaching, leadership, and boardrooms. This new strategy sets out to dismantle barriers, change behaviours, and embed equity into the DNA of the game.
Key actions include:
Making leadership and workforce more reflective of modern Britain
Tackling online abuse with stronger accountability and reporting mechanisms
Ensuring safe spaces for LGBTQ+ people and other underrepresented groups
Enhancing pathways for ethnically diverse coaches and referees
Continuing support for mental health and well-being across the football community
"We want every person involved in football to feel respected, valued, and like they belong," said an FA spokesperson. “This is more than a plan. It’s a commitment to action.”
At We Belong News, we applaud this renewed focus. Football is more than a game — it’s a mirror of our society. And when the pitch reflects everyone, the nation wins.
